This tournament strips the experience back to its purest elements—music, essential oils, and expert towel work—inviting saunamasters to demonstrate the elegance and discipline that lie at the heart of Aufguss.AufgussWM
What Defines a Modern-Classic Aufguss?
- Solo performance, 12 – 15 minutes (14 minutes is considered ideal).
- Up to 90 seconds for a concise welcome: theme, fragrances, safety.
- Water or ice infused with essential oils only—no smoke, props or elaborate costumes.
- Neutral sauna attire (pestemal or kilt). A hand-held fan may be used for a maximum of two minutes.AufgussWM
Who May Compete
Competitors must be practising Masters of Aufguss in a spa, hold a recognised MoA certificate, or have earned a podium place in a previous Aufguss contest. Each nation crowns one representative through its own qualifying events; that champion advances directly to the Modern Classic Cup finals.AufgussWM
Assessment & Jury
A panel of professional jurors (three to five members) evaluates every performance on professionalism, heat management, waving precision, fragrance design, thematic coherence, and overall atmosphere. Scores focus on mastery rather than spectacle, rewarding those who uphold the classic art with clarity and respect.AufgussWM

Mark your calendars: the inaugural Modern Classic Cup finals will take place 14 – 16 November 2025 at AquaGranda, Livigno, Italy. Nations will gather for three days of concentrated ritual artistry, forging new benchmarks for authenticity and skill within the global sauna community.AufgussWM
